Decrease the variability of the stations

Decreasing variability at the stations has the largest effect at the bottleneck station. However, decreasing variability in non-bottleneck stations can be very useful in stations that starve or block the bottleneck. The following strategies exist for reducing variability at a station:

• Reducing MTTR
• Reducing MTTF
• Reducing setups
• Improving yields
• Reducing rework
• Training operators
• Making material readily available.
